If you’ve been listening to rock radio recently you’ve probably heard the two newest singles from Las Vegas based Adelitas Way. “Sick”–currently #11 on the Billboard Rock Charts- and “The Collapse” -#20- are from there 2011 sophomore album Home School Valedictorian, which has the heavy title of Number 4 on the Hard Rock Album Chart. Don’t let “hard rock” define these guys, though. As well as the stadium anthems and hell raisers, there are also a few ballads tossed in the mix. One you might remember from their first self-titled release “Last Stand.”
The band will soon be joining Shinedown, Art of Dying, and New Medicine for the Avalanche Tour (March-April).
Sitting down with the Blue Jacket Buzz is Rick Dejesus.
What was it like when you first heard your song on the radio?
It was “Invincible”, and we couldn’t believe it. I remember being in Las Vegas listening to the Vegas rock station KOMP with my girlfriend, who is now my wife, and I looked at her and said, “One day we are gonna have a song on the radio”, so when it happened it was a moment. I was in Las Vegas driving and that same rock station KOMP played “Invincible”.
What made you become interested in music?
I just love everything about it. It’s a part of my life. Even just listening to it puts me in a good place.
How stoked are you about the upcoming Avalanche Tour?
Beyond stoked! We love Shinedown and to watch our band grow feels good. I remember being the first of four bands and now we are direct support for them, it’s a dream come true. It’s also an honor to share the stage with Shinedown. Brent [Smith, singer of Shinedown] is one of the best singers/performers in music.
Aside from the upcoming tour, what else does
Adelitas Way
have planned for 2012?
2012 is gonna be our best year. We have the Avalanche Tour, and we will release a new single, we are gonna tour nonstop to win over new fans and hang out with our fans. We just wanna destroy it at live shows and continue to grow.
Now to wrap this up with something not so serious: What’s something on your iPod that most people would find surprising?
Let me think. Haha. I love music, so I listen to everything. I love rock music, but every now and then I’ll be at the gym and a FRAY song I really dig will come on. I’d say that or Katy Perry. Haha.
Both albums of
Adelits Way
can be found on iTunes, Amazon and in most CD selling stores. Be sure to keep a listen out for their next single, and fallow/like the guys on twitter/facebook.
