Kicking off Track Season! by Lindsey Banks

Track season has started and is in full force! You can see all the energetic students outside on the track every day outside and training for their upcoming meets.
They had the first big meet this past Saturday, The Bracken County Glazier Invitational. All the teams that competed were Owen County, Bracken County, Lewis County, Dayton, Nicholas County, Harrison County, and Ryle (girl’s team). The boys and girls teams from Nicholas County both came in 2nd place.
Out of all the competitors, Caleb Pope got the Outstanding Performer for boys with 38 points.
In girls competitions many participants from Nicholas County placed. In long jump, Anna Mattox got 1st and Laken Howard got 2nd. Competing in triple jump was Laken Howard with 1st and her teammate Robyn Cohorn getting 2nd. Elizabeth Johnson got 1st in shot put while Kendra Letcher received 4th and in discus, Kendra got 1st and Elizabeth got 5th.  Anna Mattox also placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and Robyn Cohorn placed 6th in 300 meter hurdles. In the relay races, the 4 x 200 relay team consisted of Lakyn Jolly, Robyn Cohorn, Anna Mattox, and Laken Howard and they placed 4th and the 4 x 100 team was made up of Destiney Johnson, Robyn Cohorn, Anna Mattox, and Laken Howard and placed 4th.
 The boys also did outstanding in the meet. Zach Howard got 1st place in triple jump and Caleb Pope got 2nd in long jump. Competing in shot put, Randy Hayes got 5th and Nolan Woosley got 6th. Toby Howard placed 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Caleb Pope placed 1st in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and the 200 meter dash. Dylan Sparks also ran with Caleb in the 200 meter dash and placed 4th. Spencer Bailey placed 4th in the 1600 meter run, 5th in the 800 meter run, and 4th in the 3200 meter run. In the 4 x 200 relay race, Finn Brutsman, Dylan Sparks, Toby Howard, and Zach Howard received 3rd place. In the 4 x 100 relay, Finn, Dylan, Toby, and Zach got 2nd. Lastly, in the 4 x 400 relay, Finn, Daniel McLean, Dylan, and Spencer Bailey got 5th.
This was a great way to kick off the season and good luck in all the future track meets!
Senior Caleb Pope said "We look like we have a great team this year and I hope we just keep getting better!"
