Cheerleaders

A week ago, I sat down and said that this week’s rant was going to be about the lack of spirit during basketball spirit week. Then during the pep rally at the end of that spirit week I like many others were sitting in the gym watching the pep rally, listening to the band during and watching the cheerleaders perform. Though possibly like others, though hopefully NOT, I was having to listen to someone INSULT the cheerleaders, saying degrading things regarding their intelligence and decision making skills and I wanted to HIT this person.
The Nicholas County Cheerleaders on the whole are EXTREMELY intelligent people who make good decisions. (However there are some people who make... “questionable”… choices, though I’d like for you to show me a person who’s done this on the cheerleading squad).
AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s infuriating to hear someone insult people who are INCREDIBLY talented (the best in our region) and say that they’re stupid. I dare YOU to try to learn a cheerleading routine. It’s not that easy!
So my theory as to why I’ve heard FAR too many people insult the cheerleaders than is right (in my opinion ONE person is WAY too many) is because these people are JEALOUS! They tend to forget that the cheerleaders are subject to the SAME rules as ALL of the other sports teams. If a cheerleader is failing she doesn’t get to compete, so I’d like for you to look at the amount of people in the school who are NOT eligible to compete in a sport OR to go on a field trip. I personally think that it’s INCREDIBLE that the cheerleaders can manage to have SO many people who can compete (I think that if you look at the grade point averages of all of the teams in the school that you’d find that the cheerleaders have the best GPA of all of the sports teams).
On the other hand, I can personally attest to the intelligence of a few of the cheerleaders. You may know Anna Mattox, from our own Bluejacket Buzz staff (she happens to be our editor), then there’s Adrienne Letcher who has shown her intelligence many a time before, but why should ANYONE have to prove to a prejudiced little idiot how intelligent they are, or anything ELSE to someone who can’t see what’s directly in front of their eyes.
Now, however much I would LIKE to give out the name of the person who insulted the cheerleaders, I have too much integrity for that. I have a conscience and I am not going to subject this person to such public humiliation and the retaliation for their idiotic comments that they deserve!!!!
But, this doesn’t just go for the cheerleaders who if I haven’t already mentioned are some of the most hardworking ATHLETES in this school, this applies to everyone. If you’re failing then guess what, you can’t say whether someone’s smart or not. If you’re not some righteous saint, you CAN’T condemn someone for something that you THINK they’re doing! Because good sir, if YOU think that YOU are allowed to make such IDIOTIC statements then guess what I CALL YOU OUT RIGHT NOW, you self-righteous pig! A sinner can’t preach to a choir, and you can’t insult people you don’t even know!
So, I believe what I’ve been trying to say, is simply summed up in something I learned a long time ago:
1.   Be decent to people
2.   Don’t talk about things you know nothing of
3.   Don’t be a jerk
4.   Be a human being
5.   Do unto others as you wish they would do unto you.
Five rules to live by, 5 rules that if everyone went by them the world would be a better place, and then maybe there wouldn’t be so much for me to rant about every other Thursday.

  1. Thank you, Waid. This is something that is very annoying to cheerleaders, parents and any person who truly understands the athletecism needed to be a cheerleader. These girls work so hard, both physically & educationally, to be the best. Over the past few years, they have brought home numerous championships. Our school should be so proud of these girls who will be representing our school and all Bluejacket fans at the State Competition this weekend in Bowling Green. I would encourage every student, faculty, staff, parent and Nicholas Co fan to head to Bowling Green this weekend. Our cheerleaders are accomplishing great things. Don't miss the opportunity to witness it first hand.

I love the cheer "I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN! I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WHEN." every person in this county needs to shout this from every window & door. Our girls deserve it!

Good luck ladies! I'll be cheering for you.
