Sports Review Jan.12-29

As most of you know, the Nicholas County cheerleaders have competed in KAPOS and Just Keep Dreaming in the past couple weeks. This amazing squad as brought home the big win from both competitions. KAPOS, hosted on home turf, was their regional competition and the girls competed in the Super-Large division up against Bourbon County. If you were there, you got to witness the girls’ almost flawless routine. All of their mounts were held tight in the air, their jumps were amazing, and the tumbling was terrific. In the end, the 6 months of practices paid off. The Nicholas County cheerleaders won 1st place. Senior, Destiney Johnson, says “I’m so proud to be going to state my senior year. The team has made me proud, especially the younger girls, they have improved so much!” State will be held in Bowling Green on February 18th! On top of the big win, we had some individual awards also. Destiney Johnson was runner up for the KAPOS scholarship, the amount is unknown until April. Destiney and junior, Adrienne Letcher, also were named All State Team. Last but not least, all 5 of our seniors, Destiney Johnson, Hannah Coldiron, Megan Campbell, Jania Wagoner, and Anna Mattox received Academic Excellence awards. Good job ladies!

Next, the girls traveled to Bourbon County to competed in the Just Keep Dreaming competition, on January 28th. They performed well, but did let one mount fall. Regardless of the stumble, the girls still managed to win Grand Champion. We are so proud of all you young ladies and your hard work. Congratulations on both of the wins, and good luck at state! Your school is behind you 100%!

Also on Saturday, January 28th, Nicholas County was hosting the Bluegrass Conference. The boys played at noon up against Sayre. The boys played really well, got the ball in the paint, but couldn’t seem to make all their shots. They got a pretty decent ways behind in their score, but in the second half, they started catching up quick. Also in the second half, Sayre had two technical’s called on their players. This gave us more chances to get the score up. Unfortunately, the boys started to let up a little and the ending score was 50-65. Hard fought battle and close game.

The Girls also played later that day around 4 also against Sayre. The lead scorer being Megan Bretz with 11 points and 5 rebounds. This game was a close one all the way through. The team started looking more like a team. They passed the ball and communicated very well. They did however, end up falling short. The ending score 33-39. The improvements the girls are showing are great, you all have some amazing talents.

Good luck to both, Girls and Boys, at homecoming this Friday. I hope to see “The Hive” full of crazy, rowdy fans! Nicholas vs. Harrison!

Why be .....

....RUDE?
Rudeness will earn you a visit to Ms. McKee.
Some students in this school are just plain ridiculous. They have no signs of respect for  our teachers or other students and faculty in this school. The students can be outrageously disrespectful especially to the teachers. I’m not talking about everybody but every school has that one group of friends that can’t help but misbehave just for kicks. I could name off quite a few but I wont because even though they can ruin things for everyone I have enough self respect to leave it be, instead of making a big deal of it. The teachers have to deal with so much crap from these particular students that they take it out on their other class periods. its not fair, so I ask the question why be rude.  think about it its not worth it. Grow up!

  ....GROSS?
Dude don’t hit the toilet seat when  you use the bathroom because other people have to use those toilets to, Think about it. do you want to  sit in urine when you take the browns to the super bowl? didn’t think so! next time you do it think about who has to clean that stuff up. I don’t see you in there cleaning it up. No the janitors do. they have to clean up urine from other people! Eww gross! Next time think before you go because your aim isn’t as good as u think. And what’s with the writing on the stall walls? Dude, if you want to talk to somebody, meet with them, don’t be a chicken. the janitors don’t want to read your gossip and other junk that you post for the whole world to read. Post that junk on face book that is what that site is for, drama.

....ANGRY? WHY FIGHT?

Seriously, like we don’t have enough to deal with in the first two articles, now you are just pushing it. Why do it? why fight? do what a normal person would do. Hold your chin up and walk on. trust me you have nothing to prove. Here is a life lesson, you cant beat up everybody, Your not the toughest person on earth. You will eventually pick a fight with the wrong person and you will get hurt. So just stop while you are ahead. And all the fights are just over stupid stuff.  Once again grow up! Your drama doesn’t interest anybody, and the attention you are craving from it is never there. So just be reasonable, you don’t have to be stupid!

He Said, She Said, Chris Says

Question:  Prom is coming up and I am trying to think of a creative way to ask someone.  Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

HE SAID:
Toby Howard:  Hi I’m Toby  my creative way of asking my prom date to prom is go over to her house and wait till later that  night before I leave and I would put  “prom?” on her mirror  in her bathroom and that’s what she would see as soon as she woke up the next morning.

SHE SAID:
Lindsey Hall: Well if I was to ask my date to prom I would go into his truck while he was at school and put something on his windshield “will you go you prom with me” and he would see it when he gets out of school.

CHRIS SAID:
On my first advice column I’m giving advice about asking about a creative way of asking a date to prom if your like me that has a wonderful women that your in a strong relationship with or you just want to be cute and ask  a guy or girl to prom , well you came to the right guy your one and only Mr. Advice, were you come and get advice from your fellow students and me Chris Morgan a.k.a Mr. Advice, were do I start off, well if I was to ask a date to prom  If I was already in a committed relationship and I wanted to be a romantic I would put rose peddles in her back seat and when she goes to clean them up there would be a poster board that said “Prom?”, but if your not in a relationship and you feel like your confident to asking a girl or a guy then

SUMMER ROSE GUY WILL YOU GO TO PROM WITH ME?

Digital Summer

The first time I heard Digital Summer’s music one word seemed to describe the band for me: brilliance.  Categorized in the Rock genre it’s easy to see why; heavy guitar riffs, wild drum beats, and a killer string of vocals pour through the speakers in way that ties itself up together in a bow of heavy raw power with melodic vocals. Digital Summer got together in 2005 in Phoenix, Arizona with brothers Kyle (Vocals) and Ian (Guitar) Winterstein and their longtime friend Anthony ‘Guido’ Hernandez (Bass). Drummer Ben Anderson completed the line-up. Kyle mentions that they had a very different approach with the music industry than the other bands coming out of the area. “We started promoting the band and our music before we ever played a show.” Kyle explains. And handing out 20,000 self-burned demos as self-promotion paved way for a sold out show at Alice Cooper's Town. Not too bad of a start if you ask me.
In 2007 the band released their first album ‘Cause and Effect’ with the first single ‘Whatever It Takes’ dominating the radio seen for 45 consecutive weeks. One year later the band released the acoustic EP ‘Hallow” that included two songs from ‘Cause and Effect’ and four new songs all done in the strip down acoustic fashion. Two of these songs however would reappear in Digital Summer’s 2010 album ‘Counting the Hours’. Two singles have been unleashed from this album so far ‘Hostage’ and ‘Just Run’ witch took the number one seat for seven weeks on 98Kupd ‘Arizona’s Real Rock’ radio station.
Digital Summer has shared the stage with bands like Sevendust, Drowning Pool, 10 Years, and Saliva on their last US tour, and occurring to Kyle they are “looking at options for the coming year” once they release their next studio album.
Sitting down with the BlueJacket Buzz, Kyle Winterstein answers a few of our questions.
What's It Like Being In A Band With Your Brother? Is There A Lot Of Problems, Or Just A Consent Supply Of Brotherly Love?
  •  “It's great. We have a very good relationship. We've actually never even been in a physical fight. We have the same outlook on most issues so usually communication is quick and easy. We like a lot of the same music as well, so writing is a smooth process. Overall I wouldn't want to be in a band without him.”
Your Day Job, An On Call Fire Fighter?, How Does This Effect The Music Career?
  • “It's tough. I'm constantly trying to juggle my schedule and make it all work. I feel like both careers have benefited my song writing though. I'm able to draw lyrically from several different aspects of life. Realistically though, it's become very hard to manage both careers and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm forced to leave the fire department at some point.”

You Guys Are Working On A New Album, Right? How's That Coming Along?
  • “The new album is kind of being done in pieces. We've finished and already recorded half of it and are currently working on the next half. No release date yet.”
How Did You Personally Get Into Music?
  • “When I was 15, my friend’s older brother had a guitar sitting in his room. I was waiting for her to get ready so we could leave and I started messing around with it. She showed me how to read tabs in a Nirvana book she had. Within 15 minutes I was hooked. Never been able to shake this musical disease.”
