 Homecoming vs Harrison
By: Lindsey Banks

Our boys and girls went head to head with Harrison County Thoroughbreds last Friday for the big 2012 Homecoming game! The whole gym was full of crazy blue and white dressed fans. (Our student section could’ve been a little more rowdy, but oh well...)
On another note, our Lady Jackets tipped off to the Thoroughbreds at sharp! The ladies started off strong and tried to keep up with Harrison. Their three main scorers were Megan Bretz, with 3 free throws and 3 two-point field goals, Reesa Martin with 1 three-point shot and 3 two-point field goals, and Grace Kiskaden with 2 free throws, 1 three-point shot and 2 two-point field goals.
Following those three was Robyn Cohorn with a total of 6 points, Shelby Wade with 5, Elizabeth Johnson with 4, and Shannon Bretz with 3.
“The girls played well all four quarters,” claimed Coach Erin Walker “We just all need to get our shooting percentage up.”
Majority of the shots attempted were actually missed. This is a talented and skilled team, they can deliver the ball down the court and keep it clean but when they go to line the ball up with the basket, it just wont go in.
In the end, the girls trailed behind, 45-51. Hard fought game that is for sure!!
Next, the Bluejackets have a chance to put down the Thoroughbreds. Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t pull through.
We played hard and fought back, especially the first half of the game, “The best quarter, in my opinion would be the 2nd quarter where we had our big run” stated Coach Reinhardt. At the half, the boys walked into the locker trailing by a mere 2 points, 24-26.
Leading the Jackets was Ethan Smith with 4 two-point field goals, 6 free throws, 4 offensive rebounds, 8 defensive rebounds, 1 assist, 1 charge, and 1 steal.
Following behind Ethan was  Ben Duncan with a total of 10 points, Logan Fryman with 6, Dalton “Charby” Pope with 4, Zach Howard with 4, Jacob Fryman with 3, Scott Keaton with 2, and Austin Allison with 2. Also, there was one big steal of the night made by Austin Allison. Allison stepped in on a pass made by one of the Harrison county players and sprinted down the court to make a jaw dropping lay-up.
After all the hard work by the boys, the game ended at 45-63.
When compared to the game we played at Harrison, we have improved a ton. That game was lost 43-78, that is a 38 point difference! This Homecoming game was only a 18 point difference and the boys played well and clean, just started letting lose come the last quarter. “We just need to improve on our free throws and easy shots,” said Reinhardt “But this team has come far from what it used to be. We have improved so much since the first game of the season!”
If you’re a Jacket Fan, you should be proud of both the boys and girls for playing a great game, even if they did fall short!
