Sports Review Jan.12-29

As most of you know, the Nicholas County cheerleaders have competed in KAPOS and Just Keep Dreaming in the past couple weeks. This amazing squad as brought home the big win from both competitions. KAPOS, hosted on home turf, was their regional competition and the girls competed in the Super-Large division up against Bourbon County. If you were there, you got to witness the girls’ almost flawless routine. All of their mounts were held tight in the air, their jumps were amazing, and the tumbling was terrific. In the end, the 6 months of practices paid off. The Nicholas County cheerleaders won 1st place. Senior, Destiney Johnson, says “I’m so proud to be going to state my senior year. The team has made me proud, especially the younger girls, they have improved so much!” State will be held in Bowling Green on February 18th! On top of the big win, we had some individual awards also. Destiney Johnson was runner up for the KAPOS scholarship, the amount is unknown until April. Destiney and junior, Adrienne Letcher, also were named All State Team. Last but not least, all 5 of our seniors, Destiney Johnson, Hannah Coldiron, Megan Campbell, Jania Wagoner, and Anna Mattox received Academic Excellence awards. Good job ladies!

Next, the girls traveled to Bourbon County to competed in the Just Keep Dreaming competition, on January 28th. They performed well, but did let one mount fall. Regardless of the stumble, the girls still managed to win Grand Champion. We are so proud of all you young ladies and your hard work. Congratulations on both of the wins, and good luck at state! Your school is behind you 100%!

Also on Saturday, January 28th, Nicholas County was hosting the Bluegrass Conference. The boys played at noon up against Sayre. The boys played really well, got the ball in the paint, but couldn’t seem to make all their shots. They got a pretty decent ways behind in their score, but in the second half, they started catching up quick. Also in the second half, Sayre had two technical’s called on their players. This gave us more chances to get the score up. Unfortunately, the boys started to let up a little and the ending score was 50-65. Hard fought battle and close game.

The Girls also played later that day around 4 also against Sayre. The lead scorer being Megan Bretz with 11 points and 5 rebounds. This game was a close one all the way through. The team started looking more like a team. They passed the ball and communicated very well. They did however, end up falling short. The ending score 33-39. The improvements the girls are showing are great, you all have some amazing talents.

Good luck to both, Girls and Boys, at homecoming this Friday. I hope to see “The Hive” full of crazy, rowdy fans! Nicholas vs. Harrison!
